Alan Wake 2 on PC with significant performance improvements on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1000 graphics cards from the Pascal generationAlan Wake 2 debuted in October 2023 and turned out to be one of the prettiest games. At the same time, it is a very demanding production for modern graphics cards, especially if we want to run Path Tracing. At the same time, the game caused a lot of problems for owners of older generations, including: GeForce GTX 1000. This is due to the fact that older architectures do not support Mesh Shaders technology, which is part of DirectX 12 Ultimate, and which is intended to significantly improve the geometry of the environment. The Digital Foundry team received access to a new game update, which may be very important for owners of this particular generation of graphics cards.

Alan Wake 2 will receive a new patch in the coming days, which will noticeably improve performance on GeForce GTX 1000 cards from the popular Pascal generation. GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti owners will benefit the most.

Alan Wake 2 finally with official sales data. This is the fastest-selling game by Remedy

Alan Wake 2 on graphics cards that did not support Mesh Shaders caused a message about the lack of this functionality, which can have a very negative impact on performance. This was in fact the case, because the production of the Remedy studio on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1000 cards was unplayable, even with the help of AMD FSR 2 technology. It was because the update, which will appear on March 6 (next Wednesday), significantly affects the performance of the cards from the Pascal generation, especially the more powerful ones, i.e. GeForce GTX 1080 or GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.

Alan Wake II performance test – High requirements, but amazing graphics. A true next-gen needs powerful hardware

The Digital Foundry team received pre-release access to the new update, thanks to which they could check its impact on performance on GeForce GTX 1000 cards. Without using Mesh Shaders, even on the GeForce GTX 1060 model there was a 45% increase in performance in Full HD with a touch of AMD FSR 2 in Quality mode. Not all places will still be able to maintain 30 frames per second, but the progress is visible to the naked eye. In the case of more powerful cards, i.e. GeForce GTX 1080 or GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, the increase in performance is more impressive and can reach up to 85% for the first of the mentioned cards and even twice as much for GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, which allows you to maintain the framerate at this level to complete the entire game without any problems. For testing purposes, Digital Foundry used graphical details corresponding to what can be found in Performance mode on the PlayStation 5 console – these are mainly low settings with some on Medium. AMD Radeon RX 580 and Radeon RX 5700 cards were also checked, but no positive changes were noted here.
