AMD Zen 5 - the new processor architecture is to be over 40% more efficient compared to Zen 4While Intel has only been refreshing its consumer chips since the Alder Lake series, it is worth noting that each subsequent generation of AMD processors turns out to be much more efficient than the previous one. No wonder that over the years, Red units have become as popular as Blue units. However, according to the latest leaks, the upcoming AMD chips based on the Zen 5 architecture are to literally outclass their predecessors.

It seems that Zen 5 processors will be over 40% more efficient core to core (IPC) compared to those based on the Zen 4 architecture. After such reports, we have the right to expect a small revolution on the market.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X is increasingly used for cryptocurrency mining. Its main advantage is efficiency

On Anandtech forum the statement of a rather infallible whistleblower known as @Kepler_L2 has just been spotted. He claims that Zen 5 processors are expected to be over 40% more core-to-core (IPC) efficient than those based on the Zen 4 architecture. This performance increase was allegedly observed in SPEC benchmarks, but we have no information whether this result is based on on integers or floating-point numbers. Nevertheless, after such reports, we have the right to expect a small revolution on the market.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor test two years after its premiere. The best processor for the AM4 platform versus the rest of the world

We tend to dismiss this type of news as fairy tales, but this time we should take it seriously since it comes from such a renowned informant. It’s a pity that we still know so little about the Zen 5 architecture itself. At the moment we know that consumer desktop chips, mobile systems and EPYC server models will be based on this technology. In terms of desktop offerings, we expect AMD to announce Ryzen 9000 series models (codenamed Granite Ridge) with up to 16 cores later this year. For now, we have to wait for further information on this matter.
