ASRock Radeon RX 550 Low Profile – premiere of a new graphics card model from the long-serving Polaris generation

ASRock Radeon RX 550 Low Profile - premiere of a new graphics card model from the long-serving Polaris generationGraphics chips from the Polaris family are already old. The first cards of this type appeared on the market in 2017. However, this did not prevent ASRock from introducing a new GPU model, which is based on the age-old GCN architecture. The Radeon RX 550 Low Profile produced by it is a very budget proposition and it is difficult to expect it to achieve any market success. However, it can work well as a backup graphics card.

ASRock Radeon RX 550 Low Profile is a low-profile graphics card from the very long-serving Polaris family. The system is equipped with only 4 GB of memory, which severely limits its use.

ASRock Radeon RX 550 Low Profile is a graphics card designed primarily for compact computers where performance is less important. The design offers only 4 GB of memory, which operates on a 128-bit bus. The system has 512 stream processors and the maximum clock frequency is 1100 MHz. Of course, this specification is too weak to support modern games (except for some independent titles), so the card’s main purpose will be small office computers. Alternatively, it may also be a backup option for people whose main GPU has failed and do not have an integrated graphics system.

The card is equipped with one HDMI 2.0 connector and one DisplayPort 1.4 port. We are talking about supporting two monitors simultaneously. The cooling consists of two fans (semi-passive) and, as the name suggests, the whole thing has quite compact dimensions: 169.58 x 130.89 x 42.05 mm. The weight is also small – 260 g. We do not know the price of the card yet, but it would be a surprise if it cost more than PLN 400-450. A much better idea is now to use more modern low-profile graphics cards, such as models based on the RDNA 2 architecture.
