Australia won the World Cup match between Australia and Afghanistan in Wankhede in an improbable fashion. The reason is Maxwell. He saved the team from the brink of defeat by scoring a double century. Pat Cummins also played well alongside Maxwell. He scored 12 runs off 68 balls and remained unbeaten till the end.
He said, “This is the best ODI innings I have seen in my life. This innings played by Maxwell can even be said to be the best innings in the history of ODIs. When I went in to bat, I thought a lot about the mystery spinners of the Afghanistan team, because the spinners were returning the ball well. My job was to keep the wicket. It was just a matter of surviving at the crease without letting go and Maxwell was naturally taking runs with ease and he continued to do so.
