A chess tournament is held every year in Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu on behalf of Indian Pen Friend Association Chess Academy (IPL Chess Academy). For the first time the students of Tamil Nadu were brought to Mumbai and a chess tournament was held. The tournament was organized in association with Mumbai City Chess Association.
Students from Tirunelveli and Tenkasi along with their parents had come to Mumbai under the leadership of IPL Chess Club Director S. Kannan to participate in the tournament. IPL Chess Academy had arranged for them to tour Mumbai. Subsequently, a chess match was held in Bandup Pride School premises throughout yesterday.
A large number of students participated on behalf of Mumbai District Chess Association. The competitions were conducted in four divisions (U17, U13, U10, U8). Prizes, certificates and shields and prize money were awarded to the players who won these chess tournaments. Suresh Periyaswamy, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax attended the prize distribution function as the special guest and distributed the prizes.
