Citroën attacks with electric cars that look amazing

The French brand is also trying to lower the price of new electric cars.

THE Citroën its designers never went to the neighbor for a surprising solution or two, and this can also be seen in the recently presented Citroën Oli concept car. The InsideEVs reported that the brand belonging to the Stellantis group is planning to launch a series of small electric cars, which they are trying to offer to customers, if not cheaply, but for less than the current average prices.

For comparison, one, also belonging to the Stellantis concern Fiat 500e it starts at roughly 30,000 euros, which means HUF 11.6 million. Citroën, on the other hand, set a goal of 25,000 euros, i.e., they would bring the price of the incoming models below the psychological limit of at least ten million.

According to Pierre Leclerq, the brand’s head of design, the new Citroëns will be presented in the next 2-3 years, and what they will have in common is the spectacular design with which they want to convince as many customers as possible.

The specialist also revealed that they do not want “Matryoshka cars”, i.e. the various models will not be smaller or enlarged copies of each other, they want to invent their own design language for each. According to Leclerq, it was introduced in 2019 for the smaller models Citroën Whichand for the bigger ones, it was unveiled at the end of last year Citroën Oli’s concept car will serve as inspiration.

The essence of the latter is that the brand is trying to deal with the current trend in the world of electric cars, along which manufacturers are trying to install as large batteries as possible in their cars. THE Citroën During the design of Oli, the concept of “just enough” was therefore kept in mind, so they did not stuff the car with all kinds of gadgets just to have it inside.

Instead, they tried to make the car as light as possible in order to increase the range. Accordingly, the seats are also made of super-light plastic, and the hood and the top of the car are made of specially designed cardboard, which is stronger than steel thanks to the honeycomb structure. And certain elements – such as the front and rear bumpers – are designed to be easily and quickly replaced, thus saving on repair costs.

The air conditioner is replaced by the incoming air, the sound system is solved with a small speaker, and the car does not have its own on-board computer, this task is performed by the driver’s smartphone. They also saved money with the displays, which is not far from the French brand anyway: the leading designer of their premium sub-brand, DS, is would banish all touchscreens from cars.

THE Citroën Thanks to this, Oli promises a range of 400 kilometers with the help of its 40 kWh capacity battery, which is expected to enable consumption of 10 kWh/100 km, although its top speed has been limited to 110 km/h.

As for the brand’s future, smaller, cheaper models, it is expected that they will also be tested by us Opel Corsa-E and are based on the CMP platform also used by the Peugeot 208, which means that they will presumably be equipped with Stellantis’ 51 kWh battery and a 156 horsepower electric motor mounted on the front axle.
