This year, Continental celebrates its 30th birthday in Veszprém. Thanks to the developments of the past decades, today the site of the technology company works for global markets. It develops, tests and manufactures various sensors for vehicle safety systems, batteries and to increase travel comfort for prestigious customers.

30 years of continuous development

The site began operations in June 1993, its first task was the production of wheel speed sensors. With the help of these products, the anti-lock braking system of the vehicle assessed whether the wheel is stationary or rotating, thus enabling precise control of the braking force. After that, the portfolio of Continental’s Veszprém unit has developed a lot over the past three decades. In addition to production tasks, in 2001 the site was supplemented with a research and development center engaged in software development. Another key milestone followed in 2009 with the opening of the company’s own test track.

The vehicle dynamics facility was renewed in 2020 and multiplied with many additional functions and modules. Today, it has developed into one of the largest corporate-owned test tracks in Central Europe. Over the years, Continental Veszprém has also added several new production lines and buildings, as well as production-related testing and prototype laboratories. And this year, it reached one billion manufactured sensors.

We now use digitized and robotic production lines in our production and production segment, we conduct significant research and development activities and have a unique test track. A portfolio covering a significant part of the value chain and an important role within the company

Today, Continental supplies products and develops solutions for almost every car manufacturer in the world in Veszprém. The site produces battery, chassis position and wheel speed sensors, as well as engine and transmission sensors with innovative equipment and automated production lines in line with industry 4.0 trends. In its development center, it creates the latest generation vehicle dynamics and driving safety solutions for its customers.

Thanks to its laboratories and test track, the company can test the ideas and developments of its engineers in its own environment before going into production. In addition, their financial area also supports the Budapest unit as a service center. The site also plays an important role on an international level, as it supports the technology company’s network worldwide with a number of unique engineering and development tasks, as well as global project management.

On June 6, Continental celebrated the results of the past three decades and the continuous development of its business activities with a large-scale event, which was attended by the company’s employees, members of its local and international management, as well as national and local government and business leaders.
