Popular streaming service Disney Plus is now available in both Korea and Taiwan as of today, with launch coming just days after Apple TV+ also went live in Korea.
Disney+ will be available for KRW9,900 ($8.40) per month or KRW99,000 ($84) per year in Korea, while Taiwanese customers will pay TWD 270 ($9.71) a month and TWD 2,790 ($100.4) per year. As a Variety report notes, today’s go-live follows launches in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand earlier this year. Disney+ is also set to become available in Hong Kong early next week, too.
Content specific to the region will be available, the report also notes.
“Outrun by Running Man,” the first spin-off from the popular Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) variety show “Running Man,” will be available on Disney Plus starting immediately in Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
These new launches come after it was confirmed that Disney+ subscription numbers continue to grow — it now has more than 118 million worldwide, a 60% increase on the same period last year. The expansion isn’t cheap, however, with increased costs showing that Disney is determined to continue its rate of growth.
The higher loss at Disney+ was due to higher programming and production, marketing and technology costs, partially offset by increases in subscription and Premier Access revenues. Higher subscription revenue reflected subscriber growth and increases in retail pricing. Higher Premier Access revenue was due to two releases in the current quarter, Black Widow and Jungle Cruise, compared to one release in the prior-year quarter, Mulan. The increases in costs and subscribers reflected the ongoing expansion of Disney+.
