Several users are complaining about corrupt images in their Google Photos libraries.
Multiple users of Google Photos are complaining on the networks about corrupt images stored on your cloud drives. In all cases, users refer to “artifacts” that have appeared in their older photosthose with dates between 2012 and 2015 in their Photos libraries.
At the moment, the origin of the problem is not known, but there are indications that suggest that the fault It affects both iOS users, Android users and the web version of Google Photos. Luckily, there seems to be an easy way to fix these problems.
Clearing Google Photos cache seems to fix the bug (for now)
The vast majority of users who have reported the bug indicate that they have experienced the same problems: they explain that their older images show artifacts, white spots and distorted or blurred areas. Also, these effects do not disappear when you download the image to the device’s local storage.
In some cases, it has been possible recover the original images and remove the artifacts clearing the cache of the Google Photos app on the Android device. However, this is not a valid solution for those who only use the web version of Google Photos. As for iOS users, there doesn’t seem to be a solution at the moment either.
Apart from that, other users warn that only the edited images show problems, and that they have been able to download the original files without this kind of problem.
