The long-term goal of FEAK is to create a “digital twin” of the electricity network, which effectively supports political, technical and economic decisions as an interface suitable for running real-time simulations.
The main task of FEAK Független Energetikai Adatközpont Zrt. (FEAK), which was founded in June, is to develop and apply solutions for increasing security of supply and wider utilization of renewable energy sources in the electricity sector, announced the Ministry of Energy (EM).
As the background institution of the EM, the company will provide a professional, analytical background for the decisions of sector actors, energy communities and other users by processing and optimizing large amounts of energy consumer data supported by artificial intelligence.
By implementing the necessary developments, FEAK also creates a central energy management framework for public institutions for the efficient use of energy. Its basic mission is to operate an independent, unified energy data center with nationwide coverage for data-driven decision-making. Its creation encourages innovation, increases transparency and facilitates cooperation in the sector. As a key player, the energy data center promotes the transition of the energy system to more sustainable and efficient operation.
The traditional network model based on electricity flowing from a few power plants to consumers is being reshaped everywhere by the rise of renewable production. Due to their weather-dependent nature, the most common alternative energy sources introduced a greater degree of unpredictability into the systems. Developments worldwide are therefore primarily aimed at providing industry decision-makers with near-real-time data. In the first phase, FEAK provides data for the modern management of the electricity network and for the foundation of related public policy decisions. In the initial phase of its operation, the necessary developments are prepared and implemented, and the regulatory environment is established.
The company is expected to start its activities as an independent energy data management organization from 2026. By applying modern solutions, you can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the preservation of the condition of the distribution and transmission network, and the greening of traffic. With regard to FEAK, which is exclusively owned by the state, all ownership rights and obligations of the state will be exercised by the EM. The CEO of the company is Károly Balázs Solymár, the Deputy Secretary of State responsible for energy information communication at the ministry, who performs his duties as a senior official without remuneration.
The long-term goal of FEAK is to create a “digital twin” of the electricity network, which effectively supports political, technical and economic decisions as an interface suitable for running real-time simulations. The data center will be able to provide value-added services to all interested sector actors with analyzes supported by artificial intelligence and energy efficiency consulting. FEAK’s further aspiration is to use its acquired expertise and developed methods in the data-based management of other public utilities in the future – reads the ministry announcement.
