Hijack Season 2 Release Date

Created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith, Hijack is a seven-part thriller miniseries starring Idris Elba.

It premiered on June 28, 2023 on Apple TV+ and quickly became the number one show on the streaming platform.

Week after week we tuned into the next hour of Kingdom Airlines flight KA29 from Dubai to London as its passengers were held hostage.

Why was the plane being hijacked? Was everyone on board innocent? Would everyone survive? Could Idris Elba get back home safely? And more importantly, who was behind the whole plan??

We got some answers, but not every thread was tied up in a nice neat bow. Of course that means there’s still plenty of potential for Hijack season 2!

So are we’re getting another installation, and when can we expect to see it on Apple TV+?

Hijack Season 2 Release Date

Finally, more than six months after it was first released, Apple TV+ has broken its silence on Hijack season 2.

And the good news is that it has been given the thumbs up and Idris Elba will be back in action hero mode very soon.

The metrics always looked good for a renewal but these days that really doesn’t mean a lot. Since the actors and writers strike of 2023, shows have been canceled left, right and centre.

For a time we thought that Hijack may be one of them. Not so however, as overwhelming support from fans won the day.

Critics liked it and as mentioned above, there are definitely enough threads to build on in a second season.

The only downside is that it’s unlikely we’ll see it in 2024. The announcement was only made on January 31st 2024 and while the story has been written, filming hasn’t yet started.

But as soon as we have a Hijack season 2 release date, we will let you know.

Hijack Season 2 What Will happen?

The plot for Hijack season 2 is being kept under lock and key and nobody is even giving a hint as to what might be in store for Sam Nelson.

We know that Idris Elba is returning but he was pretty firm in his belief that it couldn’t just be another hijacked plane, because that would dilute the effectiveness of the series as a whole.

Speaking to Collider, Elba said: “I’d wanna put him in a different scenario. I’d wanna keep the perspective of the audience through his eyes.

“If Sam Nelson was in a restaurant ordering food, then the scenario would be, “Okay, you have two options, this food that’s gonna give you diarrhoea, or this food that’s gonna put you to sleep. Choose.” That’s what I would wanna do.

“I wanna find a way to put the character in a situation that people can relate to.”

So it is possible that Hijack season 2 will see Sam Nelson in a completely different situation or possible investigating or negotiating another heist.

On the Apple TV+ press release announcing the second season, Elba said: “It’s top secret what new situations unfold for Sam Nelson but I can assure you we will bring the high octane back!”

Hijack Season 1 Recap

Corporate business negotiator Sam Nelson boards a Kingdom Airlines flight from Dubai to London with intentions of reuniting with his estranged wife.

Post-takeoff, a bullet is discovered by a teen, Naomi, leading to the revelation that the plane is to be hijacked.

Unbeknownst to the passengers, Marcus, a covert member of the hijacking crew, accelerates the hijacking plan led by Stuart Atterton.

Sam manages to inform his wife about the crisis before communication is cut off. She turns to her boyfriend, DI Daniel O’Farrell, a police officer.

While there is initial disbelief about the hijacking, mounting evidence, including unusual flight activities, eventually persuade authorities to take action.

As the plane goes off-course and enters different airspaces, national and international authorities scramble to respond, with the looming threat of the plane being shot down.

Meanwhile, a picture emerges revealing the hijackers are criminals, not terrorists, aiming to release two members, Edgar and John, from prison.

Onboard the plane, tensions rise as passengers and crew strategise against the hijackers. Sam plays a central role in trying to manage the situation, trying to outsmart the criminals and save lives.

The series skillfully weaves the challenges on the flight with off-flight crime connections, family drama, and international interventions, keeping the audience on the edge until the very end.
