How to install Android on Nintendo Switch? Use the potential of your console. Step by step guide

How to install Android on Nintendo Switch? Use the potential of your console. Step by step guideThe Nintendo Switch console has been with us for over 6 years, as it premiered on March 3, 2017, and yet the device is still very popular. Of course, fans of all kinds of modifications quickly found a way to force the first versions of the device to run almost any code. Shortly after its debut, it turned out that the equipment was susceptible to changes. The requirements were low enough that anyone could run software that allowed them to play pirated copies of games. Of course, this was not a desirable move for Nintendo, so subsequent versions of the console introduced appropriate security measures. Over time, they too were broken. Today, console owners can run not only various types of software, but even Linux, Lakka or Android systems. Today we will deal with the last item.

Installing or running any software on Nintendo Switch is not a difficult task, but there are certain requirements that we must meet before we begin all operations. From the first section we will find out whether we can go through an easier process or whether we will be forced to interfere with the console from the hardware side. It is worth reading the entire content of this guide to achieve the intended effect. It should also be noted that before modifying the device, we should make a backup copy – this is not a necessary step, but extremely important if anything goes wrong during the entire process. Of course, these steps are also described, so just follow all the instructions. The activities discussed will concern a computer with the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Nintendo Switch has been on the market for so long that we currently have access to other operating systems that expand the console’s capabilities. This guide will discuss the requirements and the entire Android installation process step by step.

Requirements

It is worth mentioning right from the beginning that each Nintendo Switch console can run different software, but it will not be the same in every case. The first batch from Big N has a certain gap (NVIDIA Tegra RCM), which can be used to put the console into recovery mode, i.e. the so-called RCM (Recovery Mode). Thanks to it, it is quite easy to enable the appropriate boot program (bootloader), which will give us access to modify the device or finally run Android or another operating system. In order to check whether our console is susceptible to this possibility, we need to go to this page and enter the serial number of the device (bearing in mind that the first digit after the first three characters has already been entered). If a green window pops up, we have a console that can be easily “modified” – similarly, the message in the red field means that we have two options: find a suitable console or solder the so-called modchip (a cheap solution, although it requires some precision, and it is not legal in every country – even if it is intended for legal purposes). You will also need a special element, which is best purchased on well-known auction sites – just enter the phrase “rcm jig“. It costs only PLN 2 – there are many alternative methods, but this one is the most affordable. We also need a microSD memory card with a capacity of at least 32 GB.

System preparation and necessary software

Our goal later will be to send a file with a bootloader that the console will run instead of its original one. We can use many solutions for this task, but one of the most popular is a program TegraRcmGUI. We can download it from this address (file ending with .msi). Once this process is complete, we install the software on a Windows computer. We run it and go to the tab Settings and click the button Install Driver. At this point, a message should pop up asking us to press Yes and go through the driver installation.

Then we download the latest version of the bootloader Hecate hence (in format .zip). Unpack the contents to the microSD memory card (should be formatted to FAT32 or exFAT), which will be included in the Nintendo Switch console by default. The file itself hekate_ctcaer_6.0.7.bin, which is in the archive, we can move it anywhere because we will need to point it to it later. Please remember that it should not be the cheapest “Chinese” flash memory, because this is what our system will boot from. Now we pass to this address and download the Android system in the appropriate version: atv is an abbreviation of Android TVon the other hand tab is the standard edition that we will use. So we download the file nx-tab-beta2.75-20230705-rel.7z and unpack on our data carrier – but not on the memory card (preferably through the program 7-zip).
