Huawei P50 series confirmed for July 29 – Phandroid

We have been hearing quite a bit about the Huawei P50 for a while now, although this year, Huawei opted not to launch their flagship series early on in the year, instead it seems that they have chosen the second half of 2021 to launch the phone. According to the company’s CEO, Richard Yu, that date is set for the 29th of July.

Prior to this, it was rumored that the phone could be launched this month but Yu’s post on Weibo has confirmed it. That being said, we are a bit worried about the launch of the phone at this point in time.

As many of you have heard by now, Huawei is facing a trade ban in the US which has impacted the company’s choice of hardware and software. On the software front, the phone is expected to launch with HarmonyOS, Huawei’s alternative to Android, but given that it’s largely untested outside of China, it remains to be seen how Huawei’s fans will react to it.

Secondly, there have also been rumors suggesting that Huawei might not be able to secure enough Kirin 9000 chipsets and that they might have to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888. This wouldn’t be a problem but apparently they might have to use a variant of the Snapdragon 888 that doesn’t come with a 5G modem, meaning that the company could be launching a flagship phone in 2021 that doesn’t support 5G.

It all sounds rather problematic but since nothing has been official yet, maybe we are getting ahead of ourselves, but check back with us on the 29th of July for the details.
