The astronaut candidates successfully completed a series of meticulously developed scientific and practical tasks.

The six-day isolation training of the four astronaut candidates, the purpose of which was to prepare the candidates for the challenges of space travel, was announced on the Facebook page of the HUNOR – Hungarian Astronaut Program on Friday.

The isolation training is part of the basic training for astronauts, which was organized by the experts of the HUNOR program, the Counter-Terrorism Center and the Semmelweis University in a location unknown to the candidates, in an environment completely closed off from the outside world and external influences, in order to achieve the appropriate psychological effect.

In the 48-square-meter container facility, the specialists created conditions similar to the conditions prevailing on the International Space Station and the conditions for task performance: in the cramped rooms, few resources were available, and in addition, the work order, daily work and routine, as well as cleaning and eating had to be carried out in accordance with the conditions in space .

Modeling of scientific experiments was carried out in separate work areas, while the communal space served as a place for meals and physical training. A separate sleeping area and a soundproof psychological room were also created.

According to the announcement, the astronaut candidates successfully completed a series of meticulously developed scientific and practical tasks aimed at preparing the next Hungarian astronaut for space travel in an environment similar to the conditions experienced on board the International Space Station. Candidates simulated scientific tasks such as drug and materials science experiments, 3D printing, and radio engineering and fluid flow experiments.

The simulation exercises also included uncertainty and emergency elements, so the candidates had to make split-second decisions.

The training officer of the Anti-Terrorism Center coordinated the tasks as the commander of the astronaut candidates, monitored the mental state of the candidates, as well as their reactions to sleep deprivation and stressful situations, while the specialists monitored the activities, psychological and physical state of the candidates 24 hours a day from a control center using cameras. in a Facebook post illustrated with photos.
