Whatever the case, the feature is currently being tested and available to half of Microsoft Edge Canary users (version with daily updates and the latest features). For those who, however, do not see the possibility of enabling this option, there is another method. Just enter “edge://flags/#edge-video-super-resolution” in the address bar and check the “Enabled” option next to the displayed function. While watching the material, the “HD” icon should now appear, with which we will be able to turn VSR on and off.

Microsoft’s technology, just like NVIDIA’s, is based on machine learning and the use of appropriate algorithms. As for the GPU, we must have an NVIDIA GeForce RTX card from the 20 series, while in the case of AMD it will be the RX 5700 – RX 7800 systems. If we use a laptop with a hybrid graphics system, we must adjust the settings accordingly so that the Edge uses a dedicated system. In addition, the video being played must be lower than 720p and greater than 192 pixels in width and height. The material cannot be protected in any way by the Widevine or PlayReady technology, so the video from Netflix or other services that use them simply falls off.

Of course, the final effect and performance will depend on the configuration of our equipment. To run the technology, you need to enable hardware acceleration in your browser and have one of the listed GPUs. Next, we need to find the Chrome shortcut and in its settings, after the “target element” add “–enable-features=lntelVpSuperResolution”. Unfortunately, if we turned on VSR on the Edge browser, any icon appeared, so in this case we can’t count on such a possibility. Whether the function works with us or not, we can only check by visually comparing what we are watching.
