Intel Xeon W-2400 and W-3400 - premiere of new HEDT processors. They offer up to 56 cores, as well as support for PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 memoryThe last Intel HEDT processors were released in 2019. Of course, we are talking about the Cascade Lake-X models, which were intended for motherboards with the X299 chipset. Unfortunately, it’s hard to talk about them only in superlatives – after all, in recent years it was rather AMD that offered slightly better products in this shelf, as evidenced by the high popularity of Threadripper models. The latest premiere of Xeon W-3400 and W-2400 shows, however, that the Blues have not yet shown the last word in the field of workstations.

Intel presented a total of 15 HEDT chips from different price levels. The series starts with the 6-core Xeon w3-2423 priced at $359 and ends with the 56-core Xeon w9-3495X priced at $5889. All the discussed processors are designed for motherboards with the LGA-4677 socket and the W790 chipset.

According to the manufacturer, the new Xeon processors were created with professional creators in mind. They are designed to provide tremendous performance for professionals in the media and entertainment, engineering and data analytics industries. With a new breakthrough computing architecture, faster cores, and new embedded EMIB bridges, the Xeon W-3400 and Xeon W-2400 chips should deliver unprecedented scalability. The processors offer support for DDR5 RDIMM (8-channel), PCIe Gen 5.0 and Wi-Fi 6E. In addition, the manufacturer boasts support for Intel vPro technology for enterprises, as well as ECC memory, as well as reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS).

The top representative of the new Xeons is the Xeon w9-3495X model with 56 cores and 112 threads, which accelerates to 4.8 GHz. It features a new memory controller and larger L3 cache, delivering up to 28% faster single-thread performance and up to 120% faster multi-thread performance compared to the previous generation Xeon. In addition, the new HEDT processors offer up to 105MB of L3 cache and up to 112 PCIe CPU lanes (W-2400 models up to 64 lanes). Importantly, the new Intel chips are to be susceptible to overclocking. It is also worth mentioning the support for the DDR5 XMP 3.0 RDIMM.3 overclocking function, as well as the third generation Intel Deep Learning Boost technology, which is supposed to offer an increase in deep learning performance.
