There have been quite a few adaptations of Tom Clancy’s CIA hero, Jack Ryanbut the latest series on Amazon Prime Video with John Krasinski is undoubtedly one of the best and most watched.
With three seasons already released on the streaming platform, fans are eager for more, especially as there was such a big gap between season 2 and season 3.
So when we can expect to see Jack Ryan Season 4 and what can we expect from the next installment of the franchise?
JACK RYAN SEASON 4 RELEASE DATE
When the first season premiered in August 2018, it was an instant hit. Amazon quickly renewed the show, which aired in October 2019.
With a third season in the works, the pandemic halted all filming, so we had to wait until December 2022 to catch up with our favorite CIA agent.
The good news is that Amazon Studios has already confirmed Jack Ryan Season 4. The bad news is that it will be the last.
We know that filming for season four began in February 2022 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. And we know that the show’s creators aim to release the last episodes in 2023.
Given how long it takes to film the show and the post-production demands, we expect to see Jack Ryan season 4 at the end of 2023.
Jack Ryan Season 4 What Happens?
When Jack Ryan returned in Season 3 he was working in Russia, when he discovered that a decommissioned nuclear weapon, Sokol, had been reactivated.
Old spies and enemies came flooding out of the woodwork as Jack was now a wanted man on the run, a faction within the Russian government was trying to start a war and the world had to be saved again.
By the end, Jack’s reputation was intact, his boss, Elizabeth Wright (Betty Gabriel), had been promoted to CIA Director and all of the bad guys were dead.
So what now for the CIA agent as we head into season 4?
Abbie Cornish, who portrayed Cathy Mueller in Season 1, will be back. Thought, as of yet we don’t know in what capacity.
She was Jack’s love interest in season 1 and then simply disappeared. She was never officially written out so it will be good to see her return.
As her character is a physician specializing in infectious diseases, it may be that the plot for season 4 goes down that road.

Has Jack Ryan Been Canceled?
Yes and no. Originally when John Krasinski agreed to the role he stipulated that it would be for a maximum of four seasons. Now that the fourth season has been filmed, he is done.
As the writers were aware of this, they created a story that would play out over that time frame and gave the character a natural conclusion.
So don’t worry, we won’t be left with any major cliffhangers as the show wasn’t technically cancelled.
Rather than get another ‘Jack Ryan’, the creators have decided on a spin-off that will focus on Ding Chavez, played by Michael Pena.

Yes, it’s sad that John Krasinski will no longer be the reluctant CIA agent saving the world. But the good news is that Ryanverse is in good hands.
A spin-off starring Michael Peña as Ding Chavez, another character in Tom Clancy’s universe, is in development.
He was supposed to be introduced in the final episode of the third season, however, that never happened. Instead, he has joined the cast full-time for Jack Ryan Season 4.
As a character, Chavez joined the CIA straight from the US Army and in the books has gone on plenty of missions appearing in 22 novels, including seven books from the core Jack Ryan series.
For now, the series hasn’t been written and there are no production details available. I imagine that as soon as Jack Ryan season 4 is done and dusted, it will be time to focus on Ding Chavez.
The earliest date for release will be 2024.

Tom Clancy first published The Hunt for Red October in 1984. 16 books followed and Jack Ryan became iconic so it was no surprise when the novels were optioned and turned into major motion pictures.
