Loongson LS3D5000 - the Chinese company continues to work on server processors that will receive from 32 to 128 coresIn recent years, Chinese companies have increased their workload to be able to prepare competitive computer components, thus trying to become independent from American entities, i.e. Intel, NVIDIA or AMD. However, the American administration is trying hard to inhibit the development of Chinese components, for example by limiting access to materials or modern technological processors. Despite the limitations, the Chinese company Loongson confirms advanced work on the LS3D5000 series server processor. What do we already know about him?

Loongson LS3D5000 is a Chinese company’s server processor, which will be equipped with at least 32 cores, and its construction will be based on chiplets, which will allow configurations with up to 128 cores.

Loongson has confirmed the positive validation of the first LS3D5000 series processors. These chips are to be used in Chinese servers next year. For now, the manufacturer does not reveal specifics about the exact release date, apart from the general information about the debut in 2023. Positive validation of the samples, however, indicates that in a few months the LS3D5000 family should be ready for a wider presentation. The Loongson LS3D5000 is to be equipped with at least 32 cores, developed in the proprietary LoongArch architecture.

The Loongson LS3D5000 uses two LS3C5000 chips (a pre-designed processor to help circumvent US restrictions on access to more modern materials and lithography), each with 16 LA464 cores. The very structure of the processor will be based on chiplets, as AMD has been doing in its consumer and server units for several years. The use of chiplets is to allow the creation of at least several different configurations of the LS3D5000 processor, where the highest will offer 128 cores, clocked at 2 GHz in base mode and 2.2 GHz in Turbo mode. The Loongson LS3D5000 chip should also offer a 4-channel DDR4 3200 MHz controller and support for ECC error-correcting RAM. Depending on the clock speed, the processor is to be characterized by power consumption in the range of 130 to 170 W.
