Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and written by John Orloff, Masters of the Air is the highly anticipated new show on its way to Apple TV+.
An Apple Original Series from Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman (Band of Brothers and The Pacific), Masters of the Air is set during World War II.
The show follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany.
The psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of Masters of the Air.
Some were wounded or killed. Some were shot down and captured. And some were lucky enough to make it home.
Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.
Masters of the Air Release Date
It took a while but Apple TV+ finally provided a little more information on Masters of the Air.
With nine episodes in the mini-series, and directors such as Cary Joji Fukunaga, Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, Dee Rees and Timothy Van Patten at the helm, it has taken nearly three years to bring the show to the small screen since filming began in April 2021.
However, we now know that the first two episodes of Masters of the Air will premiere on January 26th 2024.
The additional seven episodes will drop weekly until the season finale on March 15th 2024.
Is Masters of the Air A Band of Brothers Sequel?
The short answer is no, it is not a sequel. But it is a companion to Band of Brothers (2001) and The Pacific (2010).
If you’re unfamiliar with that term, it means that the show is designed to complement another existing series.
Basically it is set in the same universe, which in the case of Masters of the Air is World War II, but focused on a different group of characters.
So Band of Brothers followed the men of Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment and The Pacific centered on the experiences of three Marines. Masters of the Air will focus the story on actions of the 100th Bombardment Group.
