The first one is MessengerPi, which allows you to send text and voice messages. It is also characterized by a very long range and an integrated display. The second one is a simple configuration that acts as a walkie-talkie.

A new project has appeared on the Kickstarter crowdfunding website, which offers two products: MessengerPi and a printed circuit board that works as a walkie-talkie. The first option is much more advanced, because it also allows you to send text messages over longer distances.

MessengerPi consists of a printed board with an RP2040 microcontroller on it. This small device uses two antennas and appropriate modules to transmit via the LoRa radio interface. The built-in “keyboard” allows you to write text messages with a range of 5 km. Both the entered characters and the sent message are visible on the 2-inch LCD screen. The sound transmission uses a button on the side of the device, as well as an integrated microphone and loudspeaker – in this case, we can count on a maximum distance of 300 m. 16 channels are supported, as well as 3.7 V lithium-ion batteries. The second product is a portable walkie-talkie that uses one antenna to operate. In this case, we can also count on support for 16 channels, and the range is again 300 m. We can also easily connect the same type of cell as in the MessengerPi model. We have the option of both “one-to-one” and “one-to-many” transmission. Communication takes place on frequencies from 470 to 512 MHz. The two walkie-talkies in question currently cost £39, while the two MessengerPi models cost £111. Shipment is scheduled for March 2024. Of course, nothing prevents this project from inspiring us to create a similar solution. To date, over 30,000 have been collected. PLN from 2.5 thousand PLN required. Let’s also keep in mind that Kickstarter projects don’t always end in “success,” so be careful.
