1950 movie “Mandri Kumari” starring MGR, Madhuri Devi and Nambiar. The film was directed by Ellis R Duncan. Artist M. Karunanidhi has written the story for this film.
DR Sundaram, the producer of the film, signed MGR as the lead. But director Ellis R. Duncan was not interested in casting MGR.
This is because Ellis R. Duncan felt that MGR would not be suitable for the lead role of the film due to his double nadi on his face.
But the artist, who wrote the story for the film, did not give up on his close friend MGR. He stood on one leg saying, “MGR should act in the film Mantri Kumari”. This led to a discussion between director Ellis R. Duncan and the artist.
Producer DR Sundaram, who thought that if such discussions were going on between the two, it would not be possible to shoot, suggested an idea to Ellis R. Duncan.
‘You have a double heart problem. Stick a small stick in MGR’s pulse. After that, his face fits the role perfectly,” he said. Accordingly MGR was given a stick. According to DR Sundaram, MGR seemed very suitable for the role. After that they started shooting.
