The main purpose of HBM3e memory is equipment used in data centers, with particular emphasis on solutions dedicated to the AI ​​market. As Micron declares, the memory chips produced by the company will soon be used in NVIDIA H200 graphics systems. The upcoming accelerators of the American company are to use six HBM3e chips with a capacity of 24 GB. The new memory has approximately 20% higher bandwidth than HBM3. The manufacturer declares an increase from 1 TB/s to 1.2 TB/s. Production of chips with a capacity of 36 GB will begin soon (details will be announced during the GTC 2024 conference in March), but this particular type will probably not be used in NVIDIA systems for now.

Samsung and SK hynix are also working on their HBM3e variants. According to Micron, its memory has 30% lower power consumption compared to competing solutions of this type. However, we already know that NVIDIA will not limit itself to purchase chips from only one manufacturer. Taking into account current market trends, diversifying memory supplies is a reasonable step that will ultimately increase the supply of next-generation graphics chips. It cannot be ruled out that AMD will also cooperate with Micron in the production of Instinct MI300 accelerators.
