Last year, the AI-based Microsoft Copilot function debuted, the main goal of which is to increase productivity in many tasks previously performed manually. Copilot made its way to both the Windows 11 operating system and the Microsoft 365 office suite, although in the latter case it was limited to business users. Now Microsoft has announced the introduction of a paid version of the service.
Microsoft has decided to introduce a paid version of the Copilot service. The subscription has a number of benefits, including access to all AI features within the Microsoft 365 office suite.

Copilot is not officially available in Poland yet, but with a little effort you can bypass this problem. Introducing a subscription to the service does not mean giving up the free option. Copilot will continue to be free to use, and purchasing the Pro option will give you access to new features. Those who choose to pay $20 per month will receive priority access to GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo during peak periods. Another big advantage is the inclusion of a modified version of Copilot in the subscription, which is part of Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote). Thus, the availability of the functions has been extended to regular users of the office suite. Of course, you still need to have a separately purchased Microsoft 365 subscription (Personal or Family). Copilot Pro subscribers will also receive 100 points per day to use in Microsoft’s image generator.

The American company also offered a paid plan for smaller organizations. It combines all the advantages of a subscription for individual users, but at the same time gives access to several other functions. First of all, it makes Copilot available in Microsoft Teams. It also enables the use of the Microsoft Graph Grounding process, which, to put it simply, involves increasing the potential of artificial intelligence in office tasks by giving it context from various data belonging to a specific organization. Finally, this subscription provides enterprise-grade security for all the data the entity works on. Copilot for organizations costs $30 per month for each user using the service.

The introduction of paid subscriptions is not surprising, because Microsoft incurred very high costs when developing its own artificial intelligence implementations. Maintaining appropriate servers also involves significant expenses. It’s worth remembering that the main features of Copilot are still available to everyone at no additional cost. Only people who use the tool very often and need a version modified for the Microsoft 365 office suite will probably decide to buy Copilot Pro. Everyone else will certainly be satisfied with the capabilities of the basic version.
