Some time ago we wrote about the premiere of the exotic Moore Threads MTT S80 graphics card, which was the first Chinese gaming card to implement the PCIe 5.0 standard. A technology enthusiast, Löschzwerg is one of the few people who owns this unit outside of the Middle Kingdom and decided to check it out thoroughly. What performance will the exotic system present in opposition to the Intel Alchemist GPU? Will Crysis run on it at all?

Moore Threads MTT S80 is the first Chinese PCIe 5.0 graphics card. What performance will the exotic GPU present? As the classic saying goes: Crysis will run on it?

Moore Threads MTT S80 is not a high-end graphics card and we should not expect it to beat the latest NVIDIA GeForce, AMD Radeon or Intel Arc systems. The graphics accelerator is armed with 4096 cores based on the MUSA architecture and has 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. However, the most interesting information is that the silicon chip supports the PCIe Gen5 interface. I would like to add that even the latest NVIDIA RTX 4000 and AMD RX cards are not compatible with this standard. According to Löschzwerg, the Chinese GPU only supports DirectX9 and DirectX11 APIs. Moreover, the architecture of the GPU does not support even very basic technology such as tessellation.

Did AMD cut supply to keep CPU and GPU prices high? The answer is not clear

According to tests in 3DMark provided by Löschzwerg, the Asian GPU is significantly slower than the Intel Arc A770, which is also a relatively new architecture and also offers 16 GB of VRAM. Moore Threads MTT S80 is 35 to 64% slower than the Intel Arc A770. It is worth noting that the manufacturer is still working on expanding the list of supported games and improving drivers. Although, as reported by Chinese reviewers and Löschzwerg, the graphics card still has problems with power consumption, because it consumes up to 110 W at rest. Answering the question in the title: yes, with Moore Threads MTT S80 we are able to play Crysis, but only after enabling D3D9 compatibility mode.
