They are investigating the extent of the violation and the extent of the data leakage that actually occurred.

The personal data of more than a thousand entrepreneurs may have been made public from the Magyar Posta system, Index wrote. The incident happened after all online stores operating in Hungary are required to offer Magyar Posta for delivery to customers from the end of March.

For this, many people requested an “ÉnPostám” account. This was also done by one of Index’s readers, who told the paper that when he logged into his account on March 16, he saw that all sole proprietors had been added to a “company” – more precisely, under a user profile – and thus their personal information became visible. their data.

The data includes the name, e-mail address and, in some cases, even the phone number of individual entrepreneurs. The vice president of Ecommerce Hungary, representing Hungarian online stores for the paper, dr. Zoltán Ormós described the matter as very complicated. He said that these data are generally available on the websites of individual entrepreneurs, so they are not considered personal data.

However, there are those who have registered with their private e-mail address, which in turn is considered personal data and therefore raises legal issues. Dr. Zoltán Ormós told Index that they are investigating the extent of the violation and the amount of data leakage that actually occurred.

Index reported that one of their readers received several circulars that were believed to be targeting email addresses harvested from the leaked list.

In its response to Index, Posta stated that “the data of some online store customers became temporarily accessible to other registered persons”, adding that they did. Magyar Posta took the primary measures to prevent the incident.
