The first smartphone from the Motorola Edge series debuted in the summer of 2020 and I must admit that it charmed me at first sight. After all, it was – for those times – one of the most stylistically unusual smartphones, all thanks to the waterfall, color-saturated 90 Hz screen and rainbow-colored backs imitating glass. However, it was not a device without flaws, and the biggest one was a fairly average level of photography. However, it seems that the latest generation has improved significantly in this field.
The Motorola Edge 40 Pro smartphone has been rumored unofficially for a long time. Today all rumors have come to an end, because here the flagship debuted globally. It will appear in Polish stores on April 18 at the price of PLN 4,799.
Motorola Edge 30 Neo smartphone test – you won’t find a smaller one at this price. There is also Qi charging and great speakers with Dolby Atmos
Before we start describing the photographic capabilities of the smartphone, let’s start with the basics of the specification. One of them is certainly the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which was paired with 12 GB of fast LPDDR5X RAM. The memory for data is also decently capacious (256 GB) and the fastest (UFS 4.0). As befits a flagship with a capital F, this smartphone will also offer us super fast charging with a power of 125 W. There is also 15 W wireless charging and 5 W reverse charging. Another feature that Motorola boasts is full dust and water resistance ( IP68), a screen with a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz, stereo speakers supported by Dolby Atmos, as well as solution support readyfor.

The exhaustive specification of the device can be found in the table above, so there is no point in putting it in words and wasting your time. However, I will emphasize – because I think it’s worth it – that Motorola Edge 40 Pro surprises with the presence of a 60-megapixel camera on the front, which is supported by the Snapdragon Cognitive Image Signal Processor system. It is to segment each scene and optimize the elements captured in the frame (sky, buildings, landscapes, skin tones) so as to obtain the most colorful and realistic photos possible. Along with the Edge 40 Pro model, new software features will also be introduced to enhance photographic capabilities, such as Video Night Vision, Horizon Lock Stabilization, Video Auto Focus Tracking and Video Portrait (bokeh). Of course, we will soon see how all this works in practice, in the full review of the smartphone in PurePC.pl.

As for the cameras on the back, the latest model of the Edge series offers a triple set that allows recording in resolutions up to 8K@30fps, 4K@60fps SDR or 4K@30fps HDR10+. The main 50 MP matrix is equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS), the next “eye” – also 50-megapixel – is an ultra-wide-angle camera also used to take macro photos, and the last 12 MP is a telephoto lens (2x optical zoom) for “ticking” of portraits and landscapes. Stylistically, the Edge 40 Pro brings to mind last year’s successful Motorola Edge 30 Fusion, all due to the similar dimensions, identically curved screen and matte backs that shimmer nicely in the light (frosted glass). It is definitely worth paying attention to the flat (for today’s times) photographic island and stereo speakers with a very spacious sound. My initial tests also showed that the device offers impeccably high work culture, i.e. appropriately low temperatures with high efficiency and stability of components. It’s just a pity that recently producers have gone crazy with prices…
