Where Was Knives Out Filmed

The filming of Knives Out took place in and around Boston, Massachusetts. The film’s primary setting is the mansion of the author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). The house feels like a ‘Cluedo’ board game brought to life.

The location is a private home that is not accessible to the general public. The unexpected popularity of the film has generated lots of interest in the property that is extremely inconvenient for the owners. So please don’t go looking for the house.

The majority of the film is set in Ames Mansion, a 1920s house located south of Boston in Borderland State Park. This home, which has been in the same family for more than 100 years.

According to producer David Crank, they only utilized the first floor of the house and parts of the exterior. The crew constructed the second and floors third on a soundstage.

The Ames Mansion, which was featured in Martin Scorsese’s 2010 thriller “Shutter Island,” was utilized to shoot the tense confrontations Harlan would have with his dysfunctional family.

Classic Murder Mystery Films

Murder mysteries have been a favorite of many people for a long time. The plot is usually that someone has been murdered and the protagonist, typically a detective, must find out who did it. In order to do so, they must interrogate suspects and combine through clues left at the crime scene as well as other relevant evidence. This separates the ‘Murder Mystery’ from other film genres such as ‘Serial Killer’ or ‘Horror Genre’.

Some things that might help you narrow down your suspect list while watching similar movies to Knives Out are: what type of murder weapon was used (no one could murder someone with their bare hands or by pushing them off a cliff), what motive was there (who does the victim owe money to?), age of the victim (only older people can die of heart attacks), alibis (everyone must have one), and the ability of the suspects to commit the crime.

Classic Murder Mystery films include ‘Murder On The Orient Express’ with detective Hercule Poirot, ‘Clue’ starring Tim Curry and Christopher Lloyd, and Death on the Nile which has a star studded cast and is one other best murder mystery films of the past few years.
