Netflix sub-accounts will launch in 2023 – Phandroid

Netflix is not a fan of password sharing and it’s easy to see why. While the company’s family plans are aimed at users who live within the same household, many have taken advantage of the feature to share their accounts with friends and other users living outside their home in order to make the subscription cheaper.

That is expected to come to an end in 2023. This is according to Netflix’s latest earnings results in which the company revealed that starting in early 2023, they will be introducing what will be known as sub-accounts. These are basically accounts that will be placed under the main account for users that are not part of the main account holder’s immediate household.

This means that users can still share their accounts with others, but those placed under the sub-accounts will have to pay for it, although it will be billed to the main account holder, which in some instances might dissuade them from sharing their accounts with others if they don’t want to pay for it.

Netflix had actually recently introduced a new tool called Profile Transfer that allows users to transfer a sub-account out to an individual account, taking along with it their recommendations, watchlists, and more. So, if you’re someone who shares their Netflix password with others, then this is something to take note off come 2023.
