A new report says that Apple’s rumored iPad mini 6, slated for release later this year, following previous reports that it would.

DSCC’s Ross Young took to Twitter to state “No miniLED iPad Mini this year. Digitimes story was not correct.”

Clarifying his statement, Young confirmed to iMore that the device is still apparently on track for this year but that it won’t feature mini-LED. Young says this has been confirmed by the alleged supplier, Radiant Optoelectronics.

From Thursday’s report:

As reported by DigiTimes, industry sources say that backlight unit supplier Radiant Optoelectronics will not only be making its technology for the upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models but the unannounced iPad mini as well.

Apple debuted mini-LED technology in the M1 iPad Pro (2021), and is expected to also include it in new rumored upcoming MacBook Pro models, again slated for release later this year.

According to multiple reports, a new iPad mini coming later this year will feature Apple’s A15 chip, also expected for the iPhone 13, a USB-C connector, and a Smart Connector like the iPad Pro and iPad Air. Furthermore, it’s alleged the new device will get a design overhaul to bring it in line with the iPad Pro and iPad Air, including thinner bezels and squared edges. It would also signal the end of the Home Button, and see Touch ID housed in the iPad’s power button.

The new upgrades have the potential to see the iPad mini very quickly become the best small iPad for pretty much everyone.
