NVIDIA B200 may have huge power consumption. Dell is already preparing for such a scenario

NVIDIA B200 may have huge power consumption. Dell is already preparing for such a scenarioThe NVIDIA H100 system turned out to be a great success for the American company. In the second quarter of this year, its improved version, H200, will debut on the market. NVIDIA also plans to soon release the first accelerators from the Blackwell family, i.e. B100. The year 2025 is to belong to B200 systems. A representative of Dell shared extremely interesting information about the expected power consumption of the last mentioned GPUs.

According to a statement by a Dell representative, NVIDIA B200 accelerators will debut on the market next year. Be prepared for power consumption of up to 1000 W under load.

NVIDIA H100 – artificial intelligence chips will consume a huge amount of electricity next year

The power consumption of H100 systems is not low. In the SXM variant, it is approximately 700 W under full load. However, it is worth remembering that in the case of huge data centers, this value is not that important as long as it is possible to effectively cool the entire equipment. There are many indications that the power consumption of top accelerators dedicated to AI will continue to increase in the future. Jeff Clarke, chief operating officer and vice president of Dell, stated that the power consumption of a single B200 chip will be as much as 1,000 W.

NVIDIA may lose its leadership position because of Groq. LPU systems are the next revolution in the world of artificial intelligence

As Clarke argues, the company’s engineering teams are ready for such parameters of the new GPUs. Interestingly, liquid cooling will not be used to ensure appropriate operating temperatures of these accelerators, at least not directly. The statement by the Dell representative also confirms that the B200 systems will actually hit the market. NVIDIA has not announced them officially yet. However, you can expect them to offer a level of performance that justifies this high power consumption. The B100 is expected to be about twice as fast on AI-related tasks as the H200. In the case of B200, these results will certainly be even better.
