The specification of the GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card is well known to us, but this does not mean that all its models will be characterized by the values provided so far by the manufacturer. It just comes to light that NVIDIA has prepared a new version of the core for the GeForce RTX 4080. It is marked AD103-301 and is already going to the first Green partners who offer non-reference versions of the system.
Newer chips with an AD103-301 core may only require minor changes to the PCB design of the graphics card data. However, they are not large enough for NVIDIA’s partners to immediately prepare new unit designations.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 is getting closer. The manufacturer is preparing a completely new project Founders Edition
What changes can be expected? Well, for the end consumer, they will be virtually meaningless – performance or TDP will remain at the same level. The following post from @hkepcmedia explains the matter, which compares the currently prepared AD104-250 and AD104-251 cores for the yet unannounced RTX 4070 cards. It turns out that the first core has the so-called. the comparator circuit (apparently it has to do with GPU voltage), while the other one doesn’t have it and is thus slightly cheaper to manufacture. The same story is now happening with the GeForce RTX 4080.
AD104-250 / 251 = GeForce RTX 4070
AD104-250 requires an comparator circuit , AD104-251 no need , GeForce RTX 4080 will change to AD103-301 soon. @VideoCardz— HKEPC (@hkepcmedia) January 9, 2023
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 – Graphics card performance test. Which is better to choose?
Newer chips with an AD103-301 core may only require minor changes to the PCB design of the graphics card data. However, they are not large enough for NVIDIA’s partners to immediately prepare new unit designations (as in the case of, for example, LHR variants). At the moment, only Gainward “admits” to use newer cores for GeForce RTX 4080 cards, although it is almost certain that we will find a similar mention on the websites of other manufacturers any day now.
