All India Wrestling Federation president Braj Bhusan Charan Singh has been accused of sexually harassing women wrestlers. Some female wrestlers have complained about this. Last January, they protested demanding action against Brij Bhushan. Subsequently, the Union Sports Ministry set up a committee to investigate the issue. The committee submitted its report to the central government earlier this month. The players have demanded that the statement be published.
Along with this, they are protesting again in Delhi demanding that the police should register a case regarding the sexual harassment of Brij Bhusan. The protest has been going on for the past few days at Jandar Mantar in Delhi. A petition has also been filed in the Supreme Court demanding that the police be ordered to register a case against Brij Bhusan.
The president of the Indian Athletics Federation PT Usha had said that the women players are participating in the protest to tarnish the name of the country.
Brij Bhusan has denied the allegations against him. The Supreme Court judges, who heard the petition of the players, said, “The allegation of the players is very disturbing. They said that this allegation is something that should be considered by the court and ordered to send a summons to the Delhi Police in this regard.
Wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia have commented on this verdict, ‘We respect the Supreme Court verdict. We don’t trust Delhi Police. Our struggle is not to register a case. This struggle is taking place so that the criminals should be punished. They demanded that Brij Bhusan should be stripped of his post and put in jail. The players had demanded that the Prime Minister should spare time to talk about the issue.
