Qualcomm Confirms Samsung’s Use of Snapdragon Chips for the S23 – Phandroid

Samsung’s practice of using both Exynos and Qualcomm-branded chipsets in its flagship devices has long been a point of contention between Android enthusiasts, and it seems that there might be some confirmation (albeit unofficial) that the company is moving away from this approach to manufacturing and marketing its upcoming smartphones.

A Tweet from tech informant Ice Universe shares a snippet of an earnings call from Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwala, which mentions expectations for a strong second half of Q1 2023. As such, this time period coincides with the first number of months of sales for the upcoming Galaxy S23 devices, and the statement reveals that Qualcomm has moved from a 75% SoC share (from the S22 series) to a global share, implying that all Galaxy S23 models will now come with Qualcomm chipsets.

For those unfamiliar with the whole Exynos-Qualcomm debacle, there is a long-time argument of sorts regarding the performance of Exynos-powered Samsung flagships compared to their Qualcomm counterparts, with the latter providing better overall performance in terms of usability and general stability.

With that said though, there are still rumors online that we might see an Exynos-powered S23 model. Of course, only time – and an official announcement – will tell us what to expect from Samsung’s much-anticipated flagship offerings.
