Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphone test. This is probably the best Android flagship yet

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphone test. This is probably the best Android flagship yetLast year’s series of Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphones turned out to be extremely successful in the eyes of many, and much of this was due to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (for Galaxy) processors. The leading model of this family, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, has often been hailed as the best smartphone of 2023. Is it right? Let’s be honest: in virtually every respect it is a complete device. It is well-made, efficient, does not overheat, has a set of solid cameras, works for a long time on a single charge, and the icing on the cake is the extremely useful S Pen stylus included in the set. Nowadays, you can hardly look for a device with similar capabilities. It’s no wonder that expectations after the Galaxy S24 Ultra model were quite high. Fortunately, Samsung came up with an idea on how to make people quickly forget about last year’s top Galaxy.

Curved screens have been a hallmark of Samsung’s leading smartphones for many years – from the Galaxy Note Edge to last year’s Ultra. Some people loved them, others hated them, but the facts are that when choosing the flagship Galaxy model, you simply had to accept this element. This year, however, the giant decided to abandon this idea and return to the roots, i.e. to a completely flat display. Interestingly, the news about such a panel was very positively received by the community. However, the question quickly arose: how wide would such a device be? And there are still image issues. Since Samsung is giving up its trademark, doesn’t it mean that it is somehow admitting its mistake? Well, now that I have the latest Galaxy S24 Ultra in my hands, I can only say that the manufacturer couldn’t have made a better decision. This change was simply needed!

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra does not differ significantly from its predecessor. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 system, 12 GB of RAM as standard and a new telephoto unit are just some of the new features, but it is also worth mentioning the Galaxy AI functions, this time a completely flat screen and titanium frames.

However, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is distinguished by more than just a classic, flat display. In fact, there are at least a few changes compared to last year’s model. Let’s start with the processor. I don’t know how Samsung fans would bear the fact that Exynos is returning to the top model, but fortunately they don’t have to worry about it – the manufacturer used the absolutely uncompromising Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 system in the Galaxy version, and left the proprietary SoC systems for the lower-positioned ones. Galaxy S24 models. This time, the version with 8 GB of RAM has disappeared from the offer – and that’s good! 12 GB LPDDR5X as standard is an important step forward. The camera set has remained mostly unchanged, but a new feature is a 50 MP telephoto unit with 5x optical zoom. It replaced the 10 MP “eye” providing 10x optical zoom, which some may consider a downgrade. In return, however, we get better quality photos with a smaller zoom, which is, however, much more commonly used.

As you can see, in many places it was decided to leave the same elements. However, the dry technical specification does not reveal everything. It is worth adding that the new Samsung device is distinguished by, among others, titanium frame, which should have a positive impact on the durability and overall experience of using the smartphone. Another important issue is Galaxy AI, a set of built-in functions based on artificial intelligence. Thanks to them, you can, for example, correct a photo, quickly prepare and format notes, translate a telephone conversation and much more. At the end of this paragraph, there is still the price. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in the gray (titanium) 12/256 GB variant we tested costs PLN 6,599. This is a lot, but let’s remember about the above-average capabilities of the device and the fact that the starting price of last year’s S23 Ultra with 8 GB RAM was two hundred cents higher. So let’s check how Samsung’s new gadget works in practice!
