Seeing AI - an application for the blind from Microsoft comes to Android. Artificial intelligence will allow them to see the worldVisually impaired and blind people have quite a difficult life in today’s world. Of course, so far they have been able to count on certain facilities, but current technology gives them much greater opportunities. A new application from Microsoft has just appeared on Android, called Seeing AI. It allows you to identify objects, scenes and people who are in front of the smartphone camera, and then voice describe selected elements by the AI assistant.

Seeing AI is proof that current “artificial intelligence” technology can be used in a practical and useful way. The application will be appreciated primarily by people who have vision problems, because it will enable them to “see” everything that surrounds them.

ChatGPT Plus – OpenAI enriches the multimodal model. The new update allows the chatbot to work with files

The Seeing AI application has been known to users of Apple smartphones for some time, but only now it has appeared on Android devices. It uses the Azure AI platform to operate. Currently, multimodal large language models (MLLM) cope very well not only with text, but also with images, music and video materials. This technology allowed the application in question to present the world to blind or visually impaired people. All we need to do is point the smartphone camera at a specific object, scene or document and in a moment we will hear a voice description. In practice, the solution works really surprisingly well.

Kosmos-1 – a multimodal large language model from Microsoft. It is much more advanced than GPT-3

Seeing AI is available for free, so just go to Google Play Store or App Store and download the software. The interface is very simple and allows you to conveniently switch between modes. In real time, we can listen to the text in front of us, listen to the content of entire documents, or scan barcodes of given products and then hear what kind of thing we are dealing with. The functions also allow you to determine the value of money (there is no Polish currency yet), identify the number of people, the entire scene, or the colors of objects. There is even an option that will acoustically present how bright it is in a given room. I tested the application personally and I can say that everything works really fast. All you need to do is show some text in front of the camera and you will hear its content immediately. Objects and scenes are identified with high accuracy, although small inaccuracies do occur. It’s worth seeing for yourself what today’s technology has to offer.
