Sony PlayStation 5 Pro - the console's specifications have been confirmed by another source. Solid performance gains are on the wayWe have been hearing about the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro console for many months, but from time to time there will be further reports about its alleged specifications. The potential PlayStation 5 Pro may be very attractive from the point of view of next year’s release of GTA 6, which will undoubtedly squeeze the last juice out of the current generation of consoles. Recently, there has been a lot of information about the console’s specifications, which comes from Moore’s Law is Dead. Although they seemed partly unrealistic, they have now been confirmed by Tom Henderson.

Tom Henderson confirms the specifications of the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro console, which were recently revealed by Moore’s Law is Dead channel. There’s a solid performance boost, especially with Ray Tracing enabled.

Sony PlayStation 5 Pro – the console will go on sale at a very attractive price, but without a Blu-ray drive

Tom Henderson on Insider-Gaming confirmed the specifications of PlayStation 5 Prowhich was previously revealed on the channel Moore’s Law is Dead. The information is to come from sources directly related to Sony and their studios. PlayStation 5 Pro will again be based on AMD components, but this time the graphics system will receive 30 WGP / 60 CU blocks. The amount of memory will not change – it will still be 16 GB of GDDR6 type. When it comes to performance, PlayStation 5 Pro will focus primarily on increases in scenarios where Ray Tracing is turned on. Although it sounds surprising, Tom Henderson confirms in his sources that the new version of the console will usually offer a 2-3 times increase in performance compared to RT, in extreme conditions the differences will be up to 4 times in favor of PS5 Pro compared to PS5. In standard rasterization, the console is to be up to 45% more efficient than the current model.

Sony PlayStation 5 Pro – we have new details about the upcoming console. There is a significant increase in efficiency

A newer architecture from AMD will certainly be used here, but such an increase with ray tracing enabled indicates that PlayStation 5 Pro may use RDNA 3+, which the company is working on and which will also appear in the Strix Point / Strix Halo APUs. Newer and more efficient components are not all that PlayStation 5 Pro will receive. Sony is to use a more advanced resolution scaling algorithm called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which will use, among others, artificial intelligence to improve the quality of image upscaling. This solution will be possible thanks to a custom AI system to accelerate this type of calculations. Its power is to be 300 TOPS for 8-bit calculations and 67 TFLOPS for FP16 calculations. In turn, the FP32 power of the “Trinity” chip powering PlayStation 5 Pro is 33 TFLOPS (which additionally indicates a higher core clock speed compared to PS5). According to Henderson’s sources, the console devkits first went to First Party studios (September 2023), while Third Party studios received samples in January this year. This spring, the studios will also receive final device designs. The premiere is currently scheduled for the end of 2024, although Henderson does not hide that the debut may ultimately be moved to 2025 due to the lack of game premieres from First Party studios in 2024.
