Twitter’s latest innovation changes one of the most basic guiding principles of the social media platform, and quite radically.

When Twitter was launched in 2006, the press still referred to it as an official “microblogging” service, since one of its most important limitations was that a post could be no longer than 140 characters.

This seemed like an unusual limitation at first, but over time users got used to and adapted to this limitation. As a result, it caused a lot of publicity when the character limit was increased to 280 characters a few years ago, as many felt that this would change the basic culture of the platform, but the new Twitter led by Elon Musk decided to take an even more radical step.

Twitter Blue (aka Twitter’s subscription feature) shared a tweet the other day announcing that Blue subscribers in the US will now be able to share tweets up to 4,000 characters long.

According to the announcement, this change was introduced because of the “thread” phenomenon, because it often happens on Twitter that someone writes down what they have to say through many tweets linked directly one after the other, or writes it on a picture, or uses a separate service, such as e.g. the TwitLonger.

This is not the first controversial change at Twitter, since since Elon Musk took control, he has regularly been in the crosshairs of critics due to the director’s radical decisions. The entrepreneur from the very beginning try to aggressively monetize the platformwhile practicing a management style within the company that its professionalism can be questioned even with the greatest goodwill.
