Thanks to MAME, old calculators join the group of emulated devices on the Internet ArchiveProbably few of us realize that on the Internet Archive website we can not only view copies of websites, but also a large number of emulators of many old devices. MAME is responsible for most of them. It is a platform for emulating various types of retro equipment. It tries to reproduce the operation of the original ones as faithfully as possible. Old calculators have just joined their collection.

At Archive.org we have the ability to run many old, emulated devices. Their group has just been supplemented with “new” equipment. All thanks to the MAME platform.

BlueStacks 5 – Here is the new version of the Android emulator for PC. It is supposed to use 40% less memory and support ARM

MAME itself has been on the market for over 25 years. Thanks to this emulator, whose creator was Nicola Salmoria, we had the opportunity to run games from old arcade machines. Over time, the emulator merged with MESS – an emulator of portable and console gaming systems, computer platforms and calculators. So it stopped focusing only on games and offered support for other devices. The whole thing developed into a platform. For so many years, the “MAME Team” team has managed to add support for tens of thousands of old games and various types of equipment and tools. The number of emulated games is so huge that it exists side which contains information about those that are not yet operational. The emulator itself can be downloaded from the official one sourceshowever, to run anything, you need ROMs that are not included with it.

Unlocking hidden features in the revolutionary LYTRO camera that everyone has forgotten about

As I mentioned at the beginning, on the Internet Archive website we can find a really large database of various types of software and emulators. Thanks to “The Emularity” (open source software using Java Script) we are able to run most MESS/MAME items directly from a web browser. The mapping in the operation of these devices is at a really high level. It’s almost as if we launched a real device, standing right in front of us in the real world. And right now we have a launch 13 calculatorsfrom past years. After turning on any of them, a virtual version of the device is shown to us, which we can use as real hardware. The whole thing looks really interesting, thanks to the technology used.

Wine 8.0 is now available. The layer that translates applications from the MS environment is getting better… but it’s still far from perfect

The subject of emulators and what people from “MAME Team” do is really amazing and huge. We can take advantage of the hundreds of devices already available on the site or download an emulator and enjoy the nostalgia after launching sentimental games or devices from the old days. All page references are placed in paragraphs. Whole collection on Archive.org also knocks out with the amount. Of course, it’s impossible to include everything in a short news – so I encourage you to check everything yourself, it’s definitely worth spending a moment of your time 🙂
