The 5G Advanced network is already operational in China and allows for huge speeds. It will be supported by Oppo Find X7 series smartphonesChinese mobile operator China Mobile has just announced the launch of the 5G Advanced network (also known as 5.5G or 5GA) in its domestic market. Ultimately, by the end of 2024, the entire infrastructure is to cover a total of 300 cities. One of the first smartphones to support the new product has already been present on the Chinese market for some time – two models from Oppo: Find X7 and Find X7 Ultra. For Poland, 5.5G is still a thing of the future.

5G Advanced will be a significant improvement of the existing 5G network, and is already an introduction to the 6G generation. This version was introduced in China thanks to the China Mobile operator. The first devices that will support the new feature are already on the market.

At the moment, there are several “demonstration” places in China where you can see for yourself how much better the 5G Advanced network is than existing solutions. The list of the first 100 cities where the new product will appear (thanks to China Mobile) includes Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Of course, appropriate equipment is required to use 5GA, and there is not much of it currently on the market. However, one of Oppo’s representatives presented a photo (shown below) showing the Oppo Find X7 Ultra smartphone. In the upper right corner you can see an icon that indicates support for the 5.5G network. It is known that the appropriate update will be released soon. The base variant is also among the supported devices, even though both models have different systems (Mediatek Dimensity 9300 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3).

Meanwhile, right after China Mobile announced the introduction of the 5G Advanced network, the operator presented the results from the Xiaomi 14 Ultra smartphone. It achieved blazing download speeds that exceeded 5 Gbps. However, the updated technology is expected to provide not only much better throughput, but also lower latencies and support for higher frequency bands (even above 24 GHz). The 5.5G network offers a maximum of 10 Gb/s for downloading and 1 Gb/s for uploading. There will certainly be more and more compatible or simply updated devices, but we should not expect that anything will change in our country in 2024 or even later.
