The Szeged Foundry developed its production technology with more than half a billion forints



New technology and testing and quality control machines have been added to their equipment portfolio, which enables the company to produce more precise castings.

Szegedi Öntöde Kft., which deals in metal casting, developed its production technology with more than half a billion forints – the company announced at the closing event of the project. According to their information, the total cost of the development was HUF 504.2 million, of which HUF 352.97 million was covered by a conditionally refundable European Union grant, which the company won in addition to the Economic Development and Innovation Operational Program (Ginop).

New technology and testing and quality control machines have been added to their equipment portfolio, which allows the company to produce more precise castings – it was announced at the project closing.

In addition to the new machines, the project also included the development of a new corporate management system tailored to the company, the renovation of social spaces, and the renovation of a design office, where the heating is provided by a heat pump system. More than 20 employees also received IT training, which is necessary for operating the machines and interpreting data analysis.

Sándor Kovács, the managing director of the company, said that the predecessor of the company in Szeged with approximately 160 employees was founded in 1936, Szegedi Öntöde Kft. was bought in 1994 by the workers working there. Currently, almost 800 different types of castings are produced, more than half of their production is covered by the vehicle industry. Last year, around 5,300 tons of iron castings were produced.

The director added that the company exports 60 percent of its products directly, but the majority of the rest also goes abroad. Its main European target markets are Slovenia, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Croatia, Romania, the Czech Republic, France and Slovakia.

The company has been continuously developing its technology since 2016 due to dynamic changes in market demands. It combines traditional casting processes with the production of high-precision castings with a special composition. Automated processes and a quality control system will be incorporated into the production process – explained the director.

According to public company data, the net sales revenue of Szegedi Öntöde Kft. in 2022 was HUF 5.4 billion, of which HUF 2.6 billion came from domestic sales, and a year earlier it was HUF 3.8 billion, of which HUF 1.7 billion came from from domestic sales. Its taxable profit increased to HUF 379.9 million from HUF 115.8 million in 2021.
