There will be a serious need for qualified professionals, as in the next period, investments of historical importance will be realized in Szeged, which will fundamentally change the economy of the region.

The three largest schools of the Vocational Training Center in Szeged will be renovated with almost HUF seven billion in EU and domestic funding. In the recent period, HUF 300-500 million were spent annually on developments in the center from domestic budget resources. This year too, they will spend about half a billion forints on maintenance and buy the necessary IT and other equipment for education.

However, the HUF 6.83 billion project compiled on the basis of the schools’ development proposals – exceeding the center’s annual budget – stands out among them.

Director General Margit Erdélyi explained that the renovation of the center’s three largest schools can take place by March 2026, and IT equipment, school furniture, and classroom equipment will be purchased for more than HUF two billion.

The purpose of the construction investments is the energy modernization of the schools, which were mostly built in the 1970s, which are expected to save energy by at least 30 percent. The classrooms, workshops, laboratories, and community spaces are also being developed, since the period of the pandemic proved how important their socialization is for the development of students, said the director general.

In addition to the energy improvements, an IT center and a digital creative space will be created at the Gábor Dénes Technikum and Vocational High School, which provides education for professions belonging to the IT and telecommunications sector. At the Gyula Krúdy Vocational School, which teaches tourism, hospitality, and trade professions, in addition to the building reconstruction, an outdoor gastro center for the presentation of outdoor cooking and baking techniques will be created, and at the Móraváros Vocational School, a multi-purpose workshop will be built – Margit Erdélyi explained the details of the investments.
