These handsets will no longer support T-Mobile’s Wi-Fi Calling next month – Phandroid

While we aren’t necessarily in the habit of changing our phones every year or every couple of years, we’re not sure how many of us are still holding onto and using phones that are more than five years ago. But if you are and you’re also a T-Mobile customer, you might want to take note of this especially if you rely on the carrier’s Wi-Fi Calling service.

This is because T-Mobile has announced that they will be retiring support for several devices on the 31s of May that still uses its Wi-Fi Calling 1.0 service. The carrier claims that this only affects version 1.0 and that those that use its 2.0 service will not be affected. According to the carrier:

“An old version of Wi-Fi Calling from 2015 (version 1.0) is no longer supported in the industry and will be disabled. On May 31, 2021 Wi-Fi Calling on phones that use Wi-Fi Calling 1.0 will no longer work. This doesn’t impact devices that support Wi-Fi Calling 2.0 or later. This also won’t impact data access over Wi-Fi.”

The devices that are affected include:

Like we said, a lot of these devices are pretty old, especially when you consider the fact that handsets like the Galaxy S3 are on the list. This means that there is a good chance you won’t be impacted by this, but just to be safe, if you are, then do take note of the upcoming changes.
