This could be our first look at the Fitbit Charge 5 and its new design – Phandroid

Since the start of 2020, Fitbit has released a total of five fitness trackers or smartwatches. While the Fitbit Luxe is the latest in the lineup, we could be nearing the launch of the Fitbit Charge 5. The team over at 9to5Google has acquired the first render of this supposed Charge 5, codenamed ‘Morgan’.

As you can see in the image, the Fitbit ‘Morgan’ is a bit wider than the Luxe or Inspire 2, but doesn’t follow the design language of the Fitbit Sense or Versa 3. Because of this, the render is suggested to fall under the Charge lineup of fitness trackers.

Not much about the Fitbit ‘Morgan’ is known just yet, as 9to5Google has only been able to reveal the render and that it will include NFC. But when looking at the render, you can see that Fitbit might be pivoting to a wider band to help accommodate a potentially larger display. And speaking of the display, it’s showing off some color, which is not something that is offered by the current-generation Fitbit Charge 4.

Over at TechRadar, an FCC document was discovered, showing that a new Fitbit ‘wireless activity tracker’ was registered earlier this year. Unfortunately, there is no other mention of a codenamed ‘Morgan’ device coming from Fitbit. In order to see an official release, the tracker would have to pass through FCC regulations before it would be able to go on sale.

If Fitbit is indeed working on a new Charge fitness tracker, it comes as a bit of a surprise. Not only does it not fall in line with the company’s release timeline (two years elapsed between the Charge 3 and 4), but expectations were that we would be seeing a Wear OS 3-powered smartwatch. After Google and Samsung announced its new partnership for Wear OS, Fitbit’s CEO confirmed the next smartwatch will be powered by this new wearable software.

Maybe we’re in for a surprise now that Google is pulling the strings as it completed the purchase of Fitbit back in 2019.
