After years of stagnation, the genre of football simulators may be a bit more interesting in the near future. From next year, FIFA 24 will not appear, but EA Sports FC, as Electronic Arts parted with the brand. The participation of the Strikerz team, which creates its own football game, may also be interesting. Recently, a solid gameplay has appeared, allowing us to draw some preliminary conclusions from the project.
UFL is an upcoming free-to-play sports game. Initially, it is supposed to be an alternative for regulars on the market. The British studio Strikerz released an 8-minute gameplay record.

A small team of developers has been working on UFL for over 5 years. Although we can’t count – at least at the moment – that we will play with too many licensed teams, the British have arranged for the possibility of sharing certain players, including many of the most famous. Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Roberto Firmino will be among them. We will also get some licensed teams, including Borussia Mönchengladbach, AS Roma and West Ham United.

The gameplay aspect looks pretty good. Of course, the creators still have a lot of work to do, because some elements require corrections. For example, after some shots the ball seems to go a bit too fast. In addition, the character models are sometimes still too rigid. Nevertheless, in terms of smoothness of the match or visual effects, the project looks really good at this stage – especially considering that we will be dealing with a title that is supposed to be playable for free. We don’t know when yet, but when it does, it will be available on PCs and PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
