The bear is a comedy-drama television series by creator Christopher Storer. Taking the world by storm and easily one of the best new shows of the year, it premiered on Hulu on June 23, 2022.

It features a star-studded cast that includes Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Abby Elliott.

The story follows Carmen Berzatto, a young chef from the world of fine dining who returns home to Chicago to take over his family’s Italian beef sandwich shop following his older brother’s suicide.

However, he faces a daunting challenge – the shop is burdened with debts, a dilapidated kitchen, and a chaotic staff.

In June 2022, The bear was renewed for a second season and will consist of 10 episodes.

Where To Watch The Bear For Free?

If you haven’t seen it yet, you’re probably wondering: where to watch The bear?

I have good and bad news; sadly, The bear will not be appearing on Netflix anytime soon.

However, the good news is that it is available to stream on Disney+ everywhere outside of the US.

In the United States, you can watch The bear on Huluwith the first season now fully available.

Basically, this is how it works. Hulu shows normally stream on STAR+ (outside of America). As part of its package, Disney+ includes this channel as part of its subscription.

For countries like Brazil and Argentina, that don’t have Disney+, you can still find The bear on Star+ as an independent streaming service.

However, most European countries have Disney+so that’s where you can watch The bear.

So make sure that you sign up for Disney+ for a small initial fee, and this will give you access to The bear and all the other great content that the streaming platform has to offer.

Is The Bear Based On A True Story?

While the show itself is fictitious, creator Christopher Storer based it on a real-life sandwich shop called Mr. Beef on Orleans, in Chicago.

He was friends with the owner’s son and loved it so much that the interior of the sandwich shop featured in the show is a replica of the real-life Beef on Orleans.

The only other similarity to real life is that the character of Carmy is loosely based on the life of Chicago chef Charlie Trotter whose restaurant was one of three in Chicago to be awarded two stars by the Michelin Guide.

Critical Reception

in its first season, The bear received nominations for Best Comedy Series at both the Critics’ Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Allen White was recognized for his outstanding performance, winning Best Actor in a Comedy Series at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Ayo Edebiri was also recognized for her performance, receiving a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Additionally, the show’s ensemble cast was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

More Disney+ Shows?

Disney Plus has an impressive lineup of original content, along with brilliant Disney movies, you’ll also get access to the Pixar catalog along with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Wakanda Forever, Captain America, Thor etc…) and not forgetting all the Star Wars movies and series.

Subscribers outside the US also benefit from content which is normally only seen on HULU or FX via the Star Channel.

That comes as part of your Disney+ subscription and includes some of the best tv shows and movies, including NCIS, Abbott Elementary, Will Trentand Welcome To Wrexham.

They have something for everyone in the family! If you’re not already a Disney+ subscriber, now is the perfect time to sign up.

You can cancel anytime so there’s no risk, and you’ll be able to watch The bear!
