Test flights are conducted by US Air Force and Army pilots.

The electric cars After 2015, the next transport revolution will be electrically driven aircraft capable of taking off from a standstill, the so-called eVTOLs. We have also written about similar machines on Zöld Pálya, including at the beginning of last year, when they successfully tested the Archer air taxior when the Hungarian Orca Aerospace we interviewed one of its founders.

However, the eVTOL market is only recently starting to really pick up, with a working prototype delivered by a company called Aska. And now Electrek reported that in New York they are successfully testing and testing the Blade Air Mobility and the BETA Technologies jointly developed air taxi.

According to the newspaper’s information, the goal of the two companies is to provide cost-effective air transportation in the world’s busiest cities, including the USA, the EU, Canada, and India.

The eVTOL vehicle codenamed ALIA-250 EVA has been developed by the two companies for three years. The design of the air taxi was inspired by nature: the designers paid attention to the migratory ability of the arctic tern, as this migratory bird species makes the longest journey of all other similar birds. This also inspired the ALIA-250 EVA plans, as the engineers of the two companies tried to find the most efficient flight method.

The air taxi can travel 250 nautical miles, i.e. approximately 463 kilometers, on a single charge, after which it can be “refueled” again in approximately 50 minutes. Two versions of the eVTOL are being produced: one is specifically designed to accommodate passengers, but a cargo version is also being produced, which is capable of delivering a large 5.6 cubic meters of cargo. Test pilots from the US Air Force and the US Army were invited to carry out the current tests.

The current demonstration is a huge milestone, as a result of which we will replace helicopters with electric aircraft capable of vertical ascent. We are extremely pleased that our partner, BETA, has created the right machine for this, with the required range, transport capacity and noise profile, suitable for use in our key markets, including our home base of New York City

said Rob Wiesenthal, CEO of Blade.

So far, there is no information on when the air taxi service can start in the American metropolis, but we probably don’t have to wait too long, as Archer, mentioned at the beginning of the article, would launch its own eVTOLs in the Miami and Los Angeles area as early as 2024.

We still have a lot to tell you, you can find everything interesting here!
