The Xbox’s most premium headset, the Beoplay Portal from Bang & Olufsen, now works with PS5. When the headset was first announced in 2021, it was only compatible with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, in addition to PC. As of today though, the company has announced a version that works with PS5, PS4, and PC. Meaning if you wanted to buy a premium gaming headset for your PlayStation console, you have a second option.

The first of course, being the Master & Dynamic MG20, which we absolutely love and use as our main PS5 headset when we need one. Other than the fact that this is PS5-compatible, this Beoplay Portal is essentially the same as the first model that launched last year.

It comes in the same colors, and it has the same price tag. Which means you really wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between both versions if they were sitting side by side.

While we haven’t been able to test these ourselves yet, the headset for Xbox owners was received pretty favorably in most regards. And you’d certainly expect that from a premium audio brand like Bang & Olufsen. You’d hope so too, given that the retail price on these is $499. $50 more than the Master & Dynamic MG20.

For that price, you get a headset with a premium build that includes lambkins ear pads, a virtual boom arm, and the ability to switch back and forth between PC, PlayStation, and mobile use. So really, you could use this with most devices you’d want a headset. Whether it be for games, music, movies, or TV.

The headset has one really important upgrade

Even though this version is basically the same as the Xbox version, there are a couple of differences. It now comes with a wireless dongle to plug into the PS5/PS4. What’s more, is the wireless dongle is USB-C. And that means you should be able to use it with any USB-C device, including the Nintendo Switch. More importantly though, it comes with improved battery life.

Bang & Olufsen rates the battery life at up to 42 hours of play time. Naturally, your mileage may vary depending on volume level and feature use. But when you consider that battery life has been bumped by almost double compared to the first model (the Xbox version lasts for up to 24 hours), a few hours give or take based on increased or decreased volume probably won’t make much of a difference.

These also have Active Noise Cancellation should you want to block out external sounds. All-in-all, this should be a pretty good gaming headset if you’re ok with spending the money. These don’t appear to be available at any retailers outside of Bang & Olufsen’s own store at the moment. There, you can pick them up for $499 in Black Anthracite, Navy, or Grey Mist.
