Google is making your Shared Drive folders and shortcuts a little more attractive. Google Drive’s collaboration tools are ideal for document editing, considering Docs, Sheets, and Slide are mostly available for free.

Tracking files and folders can prove to be an arduous task due to limited customization options outside of personal content. Google Drive’s latest update has simplified the process of splitting your shared content into different categories correctly.

Users can already customize the color of folders in ‘My Drive’. Now, Google Drive is expanding that capability to shared drives and shortcuts.

Users can now customize shared drive folder, shortcuts

Google Drive users will now be able to customize the colors of folders, as well as shortcuts stored in shared drives. Google previously limited its users in terms of customizing colors of just folders in their personal “My Drive.”

However, with this change, users will finally be able to organize their shared content in a visually pleasing way. This small change is expected to make a notable difference when it comes to keeping multiple projects for work easy to browse and organized.

Google Shared Drive Folders Customize

This update rolled out to all G Suite and Workspace users on June 3. It is also coming to personal accounts, and Google has adopted a gradual rollout plan for this feature. It could take up to 15 days to appear on your account, according to AndroidPolice.

Shared drives are important for teams and organizations

Shared drives come in handy to store, access, and collaborate on files. Shortcuts point to files stored either in another folder or in another drive, which enables users to surface content without having to create copies of files.

This new update will impact admins, end-users, and even developers, according to a June 3 Google blog post. The ability to assign colors to specific folders will make organizing your Google Drive a lot easier.

For example, you can assign a specific color to your most important folders for quicker navigation to them in Drive. It is worth mentioning here that Custom folder colors in shortcuts, shared drives and My Drive is only visible to you.

Other important points to note

This feature does not offer admin control. To set folder colors, you can use the Drive API. Moreover, this feature doesn’t have an end-user setting.

This feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, G Suite Basic, and Business customers. In addition to that, it will be available to users with personal Google Accounts
