Google’s foldable Pixel smartphone could launch in Q1 2023 – Phandroid

It has long been rumored that Google could be working on their own foldable Pixel smartphone. This was ever since it was spotted in Android that Google had added support for foldable phones, although one might argue that the company could simply be trying to support other handset makers.

That being said, the phone was originally rumored to debut alongside the Pixel 7 smartphones, but that clearly did not happen. Now according to DSCC CEO Ross Young, he believes that the handset could debut in the first quarter of 2023.

Young’s tweet was in response to Roland Quandt who publicly asked about the whereabouts of the phone. According to Young, the panels Google requires for the phone are only expected to begin shipping in January 2023, so a launch in the first quarter of the new year actually makes sense.

That being said, we have to wonder if Google plans on hosting an event for the handset. After all, it is quite a big deal. The company usually hosts a couple of events a year – one for I/O and one for its Pixel and Nest devices. While Google does launch devices in the early part of the year, they don’t usually get their own event.

Perhaps that might change for the Pixel Fold, but we’ll have to wait and see.
