If you watched any of the Google I/O 2021 keynote, you would have likely noticed there was a lot more attention paid to privacy and security this time around. That’s a great thing, especially when you take a look and see what Apple is doing with iOS and trying to prevent app developers from tracking your every move.

One key feature that you have at your disposal in the fight for your privacy and account security is two-factor authentication (2FA). This is so useful, helpful, and important that Google is turning it on by default with every newly-created Google account. Today, Fitbit is getting in on the action, bringing 2FA support (via 9to5Google) for users on both iOS and Android.

Unlike Google, this will not be enabled by default, so you’ll have to turn it on yourself. However, Fitbit has the steps needed to take listed out so you can make your Fitbit account even more secure. This also comes after the company announced that it would be removing the ability to log in or create an account by linking your Facebook account.

Whether this Google applying the pressure on its newly-acquired Fitbit division, or if this was a move that has been in the works is neither here nor there. Keeping your information private and secure is extremely important, especially when it comes to your location data and activity. This is a great move from Fitbit, and we hope to see more apps and services bring 2FA to their platforms in the near future.
